iStock(NEW YORK) — A submarine in the Pacific Ocean was found with over 12,000 pounds of cocaine worth over $165 million dollars, officials said. The vessel was intercepted by officials with the U.S. Coast Guard, who arrested four suspected drug smugglers, the Coast Guard said in a statement announcing the apprehension.Crew members aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Valiant, along with members of the Coast Guard Pacific Tactical Law Enforcement Team, launched two small boats to board the 40-foot self-propelled semi-submersible ship on Sept. 5.Officials recovered 1,100 pounds of cocaine which was offloaded to the Valiant during operations, the Coast Guard said. The remaining cocaine could not be safely extracted because the submarine was unstable.“There are no words to describe the feeling Valiant crew is experiencing right now,” said Cmdr. Matthew Waldron, the ship’s commanding officer, in the statement. The drug bust is one of several the U.S. Coast Guard has made this month. The Coast Guard Cutter Seneca offloaded more than 12,000 pounds of cocaine on Sept. 20 in Miami. Two other Coast Guard vessels, the Tahoma and the Midgett, were responsible for seizing over 9,000 pounds of the drug earlier this month.“These down range counter-drug operations are a vital component to the Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security’s mission and our national security,” commander of the Seneca, John Christensen, said in a statement.Copyright © 2019, ABC Radio. The Blog House and Senate Republican leaders yesterday abandoned the bi-partisan budget agreement they made with Governor Wolf that makes historic investments in education – including an additional $485 million for pre-K through 12 education – and is also balanced, paid for and begins to fix our deficit. After Tuesday, when Republican rank-and-file members joined Democrats to buck their leaders, the House was one vote of the chamber away on Wednesday from passing a bi-partisan, compromise budget. Instead Speaker Turzai sent everyone home for the holidays with no action and the Senate Republicans, who caved to Speaker Turzai and tea party extremists, passed Speaker Turzai’s budget that cuts $95 million from Pennsylvania schools.Abandoning all pretenses of compromise, Republican lawmakers in Harrisburg went back to the future… Wednesday had opened with hope of a House vote on the Senate’s compromise $30.8 billion budget. With increased funding for education, Wolf had agreed to sign that compromise bill, but when Democrats claimed they had the votes to pass it and send it to the governor, House Republican leaders would not allow a vote. [KDKA, 12/23/15]We always knew it would be difficult to change the Harrisburg status quo, especially with entrenched Republican insiders beholden to special interests and right-wing extremists, but we never imagined Republican leaders would once again turn their backs on Pennsylvania’s schools and our children. I really don’t love the punts here, but Fried makes the most sense. The Mets went off on Tuesday, but they are not that good on a regular basis. Fried has been far more comfortable at home this year pitching to a 3.54 ERA compared to 4.75 on the road. He could be worth a flier.C: Tyler Flowers, Braves vs. Mets. The Braves catcher is riding a four-game hit streak and will start here against a southpaw. He has back-to-back multi-hit games. as well. Flowers has been great at home this year, batting .297 with a .384 wOBA.MORE WEDNESDAY MLB: SP rankings1B: Carlos Santana, Indians @ Rangers. The Indians exploded on Tuesday, and although Santana didn’t do much offensively, he walked three times and stole a base. He’s hit southpaws at a .300 clip this season, and the Indians have one of the highest implied totals again on Wednesday.2B: Enrique Hernandez, Dodgers vs. Giants. It’s so hard to ignore Hernandez’s price when you factor in he’s facing a southpaw and coming off a game with a grand slam. Hernandez has owned the Giants this year, posting a .310 average and .912 OPS. He’s also posted a .780 OPS or better for the past three games.SS: Kevin Newman, Pirates vs. Tigers. Newman continues to hit, notching two more on Tuesday to extend his hit streak to eight games. Newman should lead off here again, which is ideal. What’s also ideal is the fact he’s batting .339 vs. RHPs this season.3B: Rafael Devers, Red Sox @ Twins. I’ll gladly bet on Devers returning value at his current price, especially on DK. He has five multi-hit games over his past seven contests, including three home runs over that span. Devers has a .387 wOBA vs. RHPs, and Kyle Gibson has allowed a .330 mark. SPD.
