first_imgurban meyer is now a spokesman for bob evansOn Monday, restaurant chain Bob Evans announced a new endorsement deal with Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer. Two days later, he became embroiled in scandal, with the release of text messages that indicate that he was aware of a 2015 domestic violence incident between wide receivers coach Zach Smith and his wife.Smith was fired a few weeks ago, after more details emerged about a history of domestic violence. Earlier this year, police were called when Smith was in violation of a restraining order, from which the rest of the story began to come out.Meyer was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday evening. Young coordinator Ryan Day was promoted to interim head coach. Now, Bob Evans has quietly scrubbed the Urban Meyer announcement from its website. The tweet announcing his status as the company’s “Head Breakfast Coach” is still live:Introducing our new Head Breakfast Coach: Urban Meyer! It also said Meyer would promote “Bowl Season” later in the year when the restaurant chain introduces new biscuit bowls to its menu in October.“Just like OSU football fans on game days, Bob Evans guests can expect nothing but our top performance for every breakfast and dining experience. I won’t accept anything less,” Meyer said in a press release.”It is unclear whether Bob Evans has terminated the deal, or just putting it on hold as the situation plays out. It has made no statement about the status of its brand new Urban Meyer endorsement.[Columbus Business First]last_img read more

Zimbabwe ban: BCCI to wait till October for call on T20I series at home in 2020

first_imgZimbabwe ban: BCCI to wait till October for call on T20I series at home in 2020The International Cricket Council on Saturday suspended Zimbabwe Cricket over government interference in administration. National teams representing Zimbabwe have been banned from playing ICC events.advertisement Press Trust of India New DelhiJuly 19, 2019UPDATED: July 19, 2019 20:02 IST India are scheduled to host Zimbabwe for a 3-match T20I series in January 2020 (AP Photo)The suspension of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) by the ICC has cast serious doubts on the limited overs away series against India in January next year but the BCCI will wait till October to consider a back-up plan. The ICC Board unanimously decided that ZC, an ICC Full Member, is in breach of Article 2.4 (c) and (d) of its constitution which imposes an obligation on members to provide a process for free and democratic elections. This has certainly put India’s home T20 series against Zimbabwe in a limbo. India are scheduled to play three T20s in Guwahati on January 5, Indore on January 7 and Pune on January 10.”Right now, we are not really thinking of any back-up plan. We will wait for the ICC quarterly meeting on October 16. Since they have been given three months to get their house in order, it is only prudent that we wait,” a senior BCCI official privy to the developments in ICC told PTI on Friday. He however agreed that situation could be a bit different if ZC fails to get a clearance from the ICC in October.”Yes, that’s our dedicated home window. We hope they get their house in order or else we will have to have some plans in place,” he said.It needs to be checked if there is any full-member nation (Afghanistan, Sri Lanka or West Indies) available for a short tour which will be followed by a mini limited overs series against Australia. As a consequence of suspension, ICC funding to ZC has been frozen and representative teams from the African nation will not be allowed to participate in any ICC event.advertisementThe ICC Board heard from both the Sports and Recreation Committee representatives of Zimbabwe government and ZC before making its decision. Also Read | Hundreds of people out of a job just like that: Zimbabwe cricket stars heartbroken after ICC decisionAlso Read | Martin Guptill reveals how New Zealand overcame World Cup final heartbreakAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
