Irish Water is to issue nightly water restrictions from tomorrow (Mon) night in the Rossnowlagh and Ballyshannon areas. The company said it is preparing for increased demand for water during the Easter bank holiday weekend and is putting plans in place to safeguard supply for homes, businesses and tourists during this busy period. The issue was raised at this week’s meeting of the local municipal authority by Cllr Michael Naughton. Irish Water will need to restrict water supply at nighttime over the coming weeks to fill treated water storage reservoirs.Beginning tomorrow water supply will be restricted each night from 11pm to 7am for customers supplied from the Ballyshannon Public Water Supply Scheme in the Rossnowlagh area during the Easter Holiday season.Tankers will be available to assist in maintaining reservoir levels. The use of tankers is not a sustainable option and Irish Water is appealing to residents, businesses and visitors to reduce their usage to ensure a consistent supply of water for all.Kevin Love Irish water stated “We are managing water supply at the minute but when activity increases due to increased demand over the Easter holidays we will start to run out. “Irish Water, is upgrading the pumping system supplying water to the Rossnowlagh area to cater for the increased demand for high quality drinking water in Rossnowlagh during the holiday season. Irish Water is also urging residents, businesses and visitors in Rossnowlagh to conserve water to help prevent any supply shortages later in the summer.“However it would be very helpful if customers started to conserve water now before demand increases. Customers on higher ground may experience more interrupted supply and we are urging those customers to contact the Irish Water call centre where they experience prolonged outages on 1850 278 278.”The company is replacing 4.1km of problematic water main on R-231 at Corker, Ballyshannon at the end of April 2019 which should help with securing a constant water supply at Rossnowlagh. It is expected that works will last for approximately five weeks. This will result in an improved level of service for consumers being served from this watermain and a reduction in leakage. There will be traffic management in place during these works and Irish Water is working to minimise disruption to consumers and the travelling public during these essential works. To help conserve water customers are also being asked to report any leaks they see on the public network and to repair any private side leaks in their homes and businesses to help restore water levels in the network. Customers can report any public side leaks online at www.water.ie or by calling the customer care helpline 24/7 on 1850 278 278.Irish Water and Donegal County Council have apologised for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank the public in advance for their co-operation.Updates will be issued on the water storage levels at the reservoirs and consumers will be advised when they can return to normal usage.Nightly water restrictions planned to save for busy Easter period was last modified: April 14th, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:EasterIrish WaterRossnowlagh

3 May 2016Iron, Zeus, and Rapunzel are part of the group of rescued lions that arrived in South Africa on 1 May. They are three of the 33 big cats saved by Animal Defenders International (ADI) from circuses in Peru and Columbia and rehomed at the Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary in Limpopo.Iron’s release into the enclosure is the fairy-tale ending for 33 mistreated circus lions.“Iron is one of the Colombian 9, the first animals to be handed over after the country’s wild animal circus ban was passed,” wrote ADI on its Facebook page. “With his cage mate Ojiclaro, Iron was a pitiful sight, the years of suffering clearly visible on his face.”Iron is the first to be released! He’s enjoying a satisfying rub against a tree! #33lions https://t.co/saoaOdVjMh pic.twitter.com/nd0gAVkskv— ADI (@AnimalDefenders) May 1, 2016Hear the lions roar at the airport, as they are transported to the sanctuary:According to the ADI, this is the largest transfer of lions, a process which started 18 months ago. The cost per cat per transfer was $10 000 (approximately R142 000).Care neededThe animals are no longer able to function in the wild, and will need to be taken care of.“Almost all of the rescued lions have been mutilated to remove their claws, one has lost an eye, another is almost blind, and many have smashed and broken teeth so would not survive in the wild,” ADI said in a statement.Their new South African home is a large natural enclosures containing drinking pools, platforms and toys.“The lion habitats will be steadily expanded over the coming months as the lions become familiar with their new life and are introduced to each other.”ADI president, Jan Creamer, said this is the first time the animals are in their natural habitat. “It’s the best environment for them. They have been beaten, they have been starved, and they have been deprived of everything that makes life worth living for a lion. We have brought them back to paradise, where they belong.” South Africa.info reporter
Amazon and renewable energy broker Arcadia Power have joined forces to offer homeowners a package that includes web-enabled devices designed to save energy plus a source of renewable energy. The two are partnering on the “Home Efficiency Bundle.” The package of services includes the installation of smart devices, such as the Ecobee thermostat and the Amazon Echo Dot, and a switch to Arcadia Power’s source of clean energy. Customers pay nothing for the installation of the wi-fi gadgets by an Amazon tech. A monthly fee of $20 or $36, depending on which bundle of equipment they choose, is added to the the electricity bill from Arcadia for a term of 36 months.RELATED ARTICLESWind Energy Hits a High NoteUtilities Grapple with Rooftop Solar and the New Energy LandscapeWhen Will Rooftop Solar Be Cheaper Than the Grid? The Internet of Things Takes Center StageGet Ready for Smart Appliances In an article about the new offering, Business Insider described the arrangement as a way for Amazon to get its Alexa technology into more homes while heading off competition from rival Google. The basic package includes the Ecobee thermostat, three smart LED bulbs, an Amazon Dot, and four wi-fi connected electrical receptacles. The upgraded bundle adds a Ring doorbell and swaps an Amazon Show for the Dot. The Echo Dot is a voice-controlled speaker that can play music, answer questions, or check the weather, according to Amazon’s website. The Echo Show is an upgraded version with a 10-inch screen for watching videos and TV shows. Ecobee can use local weather data to regulate home heating and cooling systems with potential savings of 23% a year, Arcadia claims. The thermostat also can send alerts in the event the HVAC system malfunctions. Wi-fi enabled plugs can be used to turn things on and off remotely. Tapping into the renewables market Kiran Bhatraju, who grew up in eastern Kentucky coal country, founded Arcadia Power in 2014 as a way of offering customers the best possible price on renewable energy, according to an article in Forbes earlier this year. Once customers are connected to Arcadia, they are assured of getting 50% of their electricity from renewable sources, mainly wind, with the option of signing up for a variety of other clean power sources, such as community solar or 100% wind energy. It took Arcadia years to build a system connecting the company with utilities around the country. It now has more than 80,000 members and deals with 100 utilities representing all 50 states. Last year, Arcadia reached the “tipping point” where it had enough of a customer base to negotiate lower prices for clean power, with rates often running 10% to 25% less than standard utility offerings, Forbes said. Bhatraju said that rising demand for clean power could stretch sources of renewable energy that are currently available, but at the same time would become an incentive for the addition of new clean energy sources. He told Forbes: “That’s when we become the market maker, with millions of customers leading the way, and making the decision on what kind of power plants to build being initiated by consumers rather than utilities and regulators.”
