THE DONEGAL jersey has rarely been more popular than in the last two of years. At the launch of the new Donegal kit on Monday, it was revealed that Donegal’s jersey sales have been second only to Dublin over the last 30 months.All-Ireland champions Dublin led the way for kit sales by manufacturers O’Neill’s Sportswear, but Donegal’s winning of the Ulster title in each of the last two summers has clearly had a big impact. Donegal County Board Chairman Mick McGrath told Monday’s launch that 20,000 jerseys had been sold in the last two years.“They have been sold all over the world and all over Ireland and the UK,” Mr McGrath said. “There is a huge fan base out there. There is a big fan base in Donegal we are progressing. There is a huge amount of work going on and there are exciting things happening in Donegal.”Donegal’s deal with O’Neill’s includes royalties off each item sold meaning the sales of jerseys and other official team wear has the potential to be a good money spinner. McGrath said that the building at the Donegal GAA Training Centre in Convoy is almost ready for opening while the County Board have embarked on a big fundraising drive that includes a €100 ticket draw that has the first prize of a house in Dublin. The new jerseys are again emblazoned with the logo of main sponsors KN Group and tier 2 sponsors, Abbey Hotel.O’Neill’s Sportswear’s Kieran Kennedy said: “We’re looking forward to working together in 2020. O’Neill’s have a tradition of employing skilled personnel from across the north-west and we are embedded in this area. We have 736 people employed in Strabane and 950 on the island of Ireland. Our motto is to think global and employ local.”Figures show just how popular the Donegal GAA jersey is was last modified: November 19th, 2019 by Chris McNultyShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Declan Bonnerdonegal county boardDonegal GAAMick McGrathO’Neill’s Sportswear
Zuma, who has a pending State visit to India next month, said businesses should not miss the opportunity to leverage a relationship with one of the world’s largest markets. Stronger partnership with business Meanwhile, Busa elected Futhi Mthoba as its new president. Mthoba, who received majority votes in her run against businessman Sandile Zungu, said her first priority will be to build unity among members. “We have been working well together as the partnership of business, government, labour and community sector, implementing the framework agreement for South Africa’s response to the international economic crisis,” Zuma said, adding that a range of interventions, including programmes to help firms avoid retrenchments, had been introduced. Zuma congratulated Mthoba saying government would continue to work for a stronger partnership with business. “We look forward to ongoing fruitful engagement with Busa, to tackle the serious socio-economic matters affecting our country,” he said. Source: BuaNews He said the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) had allocated R6.1-billion to support companies that were hard-hit by the economic crisis, and encouraged all employers who faced the prospects of layoffs to use facilities that the government had created in an effort to curb unemployment. The continued loss of jobs this year, including those recovered in the final quarter of 2009, is a cause for concern for the government and requires renewed action, says South African President Jacob Zuma. Zuma also called on business to explore the growing African market, adding that Sub-Saharan Africa was the third-fastest growing region in the world after China and India. He said that, following his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Dar es Salaam, he had returned “encouraged about Africa’s prospects”. 12 May 2010 Close to one million jobs have been lost so far during the global economic recession. ‘Explore Africa’ Speaking at the Business Unity South Africa (Busa) annual general meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Zuma said it was clear that some sectors of the economy were still suffering, even though overall, some were beginning to grow fairly well again. “I’ll help them build capacity and then reach out to small businesses and capacitate them as well so they can create jobs. A lot of work needs to be done but I am extremely excited and honoured to be appointed,” Mthoba said. “As we predicted, although the economy was turning positive, the impact of the recession might still lead to some job losses.
Uttar Pradesh is set to get its first conservation centre for endangered vultures. And a gau sadan (cow conservation centre) built by the State government may have led to the selection of the village site for the vulture conservation in Eastern Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, as per an official. The Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre would be set up in the Bhari Baisi village in Pharendra tehsil under the Gorakhpur Forest Division. Covering an area of five hectares, the centre would be developed on the lines of the Pinjore Conservation and Breeding Centre in Haryana, the nation’s first for vultures, the Uttar Pradesh Information department said in a statement.Uttar Pradesh Principal Forest Conservator (Wildlife) Sunil Pandey said more than 100 vultures were spotted in the Maghwalia range of the Maharajganj Forest Division in August.A committee of vultures was also spotted close to a gau sadan built by the State government, said Mr. Pandey in a statement.Since destitute animals are kept at the gau sadan and they die soon due to their age, it is natural for vultures to be spotted there due to the availability of the dead animals, said Mr. Pandey. “Due to this, Bhari Baisi village was selected [for the conservation centre],” Mr. Pandey said.Joint projectThe vulture conservation centre in Maharajganj would be a joint project of the Bombay Natural History Society and the Wildlife Research Institute. The BNHS has prepared a Detailed Project Report for the centre.Around 60% of the survey work was complete, Mr. Pandey said.As per the 2013-14 census, around 900 vultures were found in 13 districts of Uttar Pradesh, he said.
